Joyshine recently completed the delivery of a customized seaweed washing and drying line for a customer in Ireland.
The equipment was designed according to the customer's seaweed processing requirements and arrived safely at the customer's site. The customer also shared photos of the equipment after delivery, giving us another opportunity to see a Joyshine processing line successfully reach an overseas customer.
Unlike a standard fruit or vegetable washing project, seaweed requires a washing process adapted to its particular shape, surface and handling characteristics. For this project, the washing, conveying, water circulation and surface-water-removal sections were configured as an integrated line.
Project Overview
- Country: Ireland
- Raw Material: Edible seaweed
- Application: Seaweed washing and surface water removal
- Solution: Customized washing and drying line
- Equipment Material: Food-grade SUS304 stainless steel
- Project Type: Customized processing line
The objective of the project was to create a continuous process for cleaning seaweed and removing excess surface water before the customer's next production stage.
Joyshine designs each processing line according to the raw material, required capacity, factory layout and downstream process rather than using one fixed configuration for every customer.
Our standard washing and drying lines can also be customized with different washing, rinsing, dewatering, conveying and drying modules according to the application.
Seaweed Washing Line Configuration
The customized seaweed processing system includes several main sections.
1. Stainless Steel Washing Section
The first stage is designed to wash the seaweed and remove surface impurities.
Because seaweed has a very different structure from potatoes, carrots or firm fruits, the washing method needs to provide sufficient cleaning while allowing the material to move continuously through the line.
The washing section is manufactured from food-grade stainless steel for easier cleaning and maintenance in a food processing environment.
2. High-Pressure Spray Cleaning
A spray cleaning section provides additional rinsing after the main washing process.
Water pressure, nozzle arrangement and conveyor speed can be adjusted according to the customer's raw material and required washing effect.
For other food processing applications, Joyshine also provides a standalone high-pressure fruit and vegetable cleaning machine that can be integrated into customized washing systems.
3. Food-Grade Conveying System
The washing line uses a continuous conveyor to transfer the seaweed between processing stages.
For customized projects, conveyor width, length, speed and inlet or outlet height can be designed according to:
- Production capacity
- Raw material characteristics
- Workshop layout
- Connection with existing equipment
- Downstream processing requirements
This is particularly important when a washing line needs to connect with equipment already installed in the customer's factory.
4. Circulating Water Filtration
Water management is an important part of a continuous washing system.
The seaweed washing line includes a circulating water filtration arrangement to remove collected impurities from the washing water and support continuous operation.
The final water system configuration can be designed according to the required washing process, water source and customer factory conditions.
5. Surface Water Removal and Air Drying
After washing and rinsing, the seaweed passes into the drying section to reduce excess water remaining on the surface.
Removing surface water can make the material easier to handle before packing or further processing.
Depending on the product and required result, Joyshine can configure different dewatering and air-drying methods. Our fruit and vegetable dryer and cold air drying machine are examples of drying equipment that can be incorporated into customized processing lines.
Why Does Seaweed Require a Customized Washing Line?
Seaweed cannot simply be treated in exactly the same way as conventional vegetables.
Its long, flexible and sometimes tangled structure can affect:
- Product movement inside the washing tank
- Conveyor design
- Drainage
- Spray coverage
- Transfer between machines
- Surface water removal
For this reason, equipment configuration should begin with the actual raw material rather than with a standard machine model.
Before designing a seaweed washing line, useful information includes:
- Type of seaweed
- Fresh or processed condition
- Required capacity in kg/h
- Main impurities to be removed
- Required washing result
- Process after washing
- Available workshop dimensions
- Local power supply
- Water supply and drainage conditions
With this information, the washing tank, conveyor system, rinsing section and drying equipment can be matched more accurately to the project.
From Design to Overseas Delivery
For customized washing-line projects, Joyshine works through several stages before shipment:
Requirement confirmation → Process design → Equipment manufacturing → Assembly → Test run → Packing → Shipment
The equipment is assembled and tested before leaving the factory so that the main machine connections and operating conditions can be checked in advance.
After shipment, this seaweed washing and drying line arrived safely at the customer's site in Ireland.
The successful delivery is another example of Joyshine supplying customized washing equipment for processing applications beyond conventional fruits and vegetables.
Customized Washing Lines for Different Raw Materials
Different food materials require different processing methods.
A washing system for leafy vegetables may emphasize gentle handling, while root vegetables may require stronger soil removal. Berries require careful transfer, while seaweed presents its own challenges in conveying, rinsing and drainage.
This is why Joyshine washing lines are designed as modular systems.
Depending on the application, a customized line can include:
- Feeding
- Pre-washing
- Bubble washing
- Spray rinsing
- High-pressure cleaning
- Water filtration
- Inspection
- Dewatering
- Air drying
- Sorting
- Conveying
- Packing connection
You can explore our fruit and vegetable washing and drying line to learn more about the different processing modules available.
