Fresh turmeric usually carries soil and has an irregular rhizome shape. A complete turmeric processing line should clean the raw material, cut it into consistent pieces and dry it evenly for further processing or sale.
Typical Process Flow
- Feeding and manual sorting.
- Brush washing with spray rinsing.
- Draining before cutting.
- Uniform cutting or slicing.
- Tray loading and hot-air drying.
- Cooling and collection.
Key Equipment
The cleaning section normally uses a brush washer because turmeric has grooves and uneven skin. After washing, a cutter creates more consistent slices so drying time is easier to control. For batch production, a tray dryer is common; for larger factories, continuous drying can be considered.
See our Fiji turmeric washing, cutting and drying project for a compact reference line. Similar configurations can also process ginger, kava, cassava and taro.
Planning Tips
Confirm whether the final product is fresh-cut, dried slice, powder material or further extraction material. This decision affects cutting size, drying temperature, tray quantity and labor arrangement. Joyshine can help plan a root washing processing line around your raw material.
